Fähren/Ferries nach/to Scandinava & Finland

Hallo!  Hello!

Aus aktuellem Anlaß fasse ich hier einmal die (meiner Meinung nach) wichtigsten Fähren für Scandinavien- und Finnlandreisende zusammen. Bitte um weitere Tips ergänzen!

Because of this event, here's a list of the (in my opinion) most important ferries for travellers to Scandinavia and Finland. Please add you own recommendations!

Auf den Webseiten gibt's Preislisten und Fahrpläne. Oft gibt es Paketpreise für Familien und für Alleinreisende. Beachtet die Abmessungen für Fahrzeuge, was ein PKW ist, wird sehr unterschiedlich gehandhabt.

On these web sites you'll find prices and schedules. Often there are special offers for families and for people travelling alone. Please note the dimensions of vehicles, the definition of a normal car varies considerably between companies.

Bitte denkt daran, daß es 280 km weiter ist in Schweden nach Norden zu reisen als in Finnland wenn man die kürzesten Strecken Stockholm-Rovaniemi und Turku-Rovamieni direkt vergleicht. Außerdem kann man sich auf der Fähre Stockholm-Turku ausruhen während man sich fortbewegt.

Please keep in mind that driving north in Sweden is about 280 km further than driving north in Finland when comparing the shortest routes Stockholm-Rovaniemi and Turku-Rovaniemi. Moreover, the ferry between Stockholm and Turku moves while you rest!

Travemünde (D) - Helsinki (FI) Finnlines


Finnlines is quite expensive but the most convenient way to travel to Finland by car and ferry. All meals - which are really good - are included. Departure is in the evening, two nights on board and early in the second morning you are in Helsinki.

With Superfast you have to find accommodation quite soon after leaving the ferry (arrival in the evening), with Finnlines you have just had two good night rests and you can easily drive 600 - 800 km the same day.

Considering that the meals are not included in Superfast and with that you need to stay one more night in hotel there is no big difference in price.

Klasse Zusammenfassung, dankeschön!

Superfast has quite small "living" compartments (bar, restaurant, lounge) for 24 hrs. All on one floor, not too much to do.
EXCEPT: excellent sauna with a view and the possibility to go on deck directly to cool off in the 30 knot breeze! Plus whirlpool.

Food is very good and they are fast. Except when a storm delays you for 13 hrs... At least we got a free cabin for the second night instead of the crappy seats.

I liked them. Would love to ride Silja from Stockholm one day, though!
